Princess Sirindhorn

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is the younger sister of King Vajiralongkorn (Rama x). She has made profound contributions to anthropology through her academic scholarship and her active patronage of cultural preservation. Often called the Princess of Anthropology, Her work emphasizes the documentation of intangible cultural heritage and the empowerment of ethnic minority groups, a commitment recognized internationally by her role as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the "Empowerment of Minority Children through Education and through the Preservation of Their Intangible Cultural Heritage."

Her anthropological approach is deeply informed by her multidisciplinary academic background; she holds a Bachelor of Arts in History (Chulalongkorn University), a Master of Arts in Oriental Epigraphy (Sanskrit and Cambodian) from Silpakorn University, a Master of Arts in Pali and Sanskrit (Chulalongkorn University), and a PhD in Developmental Education (Srinakharinwirot University).

Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Arts

Located in the historic Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building, the Faulty of Arts showcases a rich collection of traditional textiles, artifacts, and linguistic maps that trace the migration and settlement patterns of Tai-speaking groups across Southeast Asia and Southern China. It functions not only as a repository for cultural heritage but also as a research facility where students and scholars analyze the evolution of Tai languages and the intricate weaving techniques unique to various ethnic subgroups. By bridging the gap between historical linguistics and material culture, the museum offers visitors a profound look into the shared roots and distinct identities of the Tai-Kadai peoples.

Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Anthropology Centre

This is a premier academic institution dedicated to the systematic collection and preservation of anthropological data in Thailand. Established in 1991 to honor the Princess’s 36th birthday, the center transitioned into an autonomous public organization in 2000, functioning as a comprehensive resource for researchers, students, and the general public. Its facilities house an extensive library, specialized ethnic group databases, and permanent exhibitions that explore Thai social history, archaeology, and the cultural diversity of the Greater Mekong Sub-region. Beyond its role as a repository, the SAC is an active research hub that hosts seminars, workshops, and digital archiving projects aimed at fostering cross-cultural understanding and documenting the intangible heritage of local communities.

Mahidol University Museum of Cultural Anthropology

Situated within the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Language and Culture Building, the museum serves as a "living laboratory" that bridges ethnographic research with modern museology to preserve Thailand’s diverse ethnic identities. Operating under the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia (RILCA), the museum translates complex studies on groups like the Karen and Tai-speaking communities into immersive experiences using augmented reality and indigenous knowledge.
