Red Cross

Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute (QSMI)
Established in 1922 by King Rama VI in memory of his mother, this institute was modeled after the Pasteur Institute in Paris. Its primary purpose is the production of affordable, high-quality vaccines and anti-venoms for the Southeast Asian region. QSMI’s historic achievement is its role in eliminating rabies as a widespread death sentence in Thailand through the development of the "Thai Red Cross Intradermal Post-exposure Prophylaxis" regimen. Your group can tour the historic European-style architecture, view the specialized laboratories where vaccines are formulated, and learn about the complex bio-manufacturing processes required to create life-saving biological products.
Snake Farm Interpretive Centre
As a division of QSMI, the Snake Farm (established in 1923) is the second-oldest institution of its kind in the world. Its purpose is twofold: the extraction of venom for anti-venom production and the education of the public to reduce human-wildlife conflict. It has achieved global recognition for its research into toxinology and the molecular structure of snake venom. At the Interpretive Centre, the group can witness live venom extraction demonstrations, explore the "Snake Planet" museum which features interactive displays on serpent biology, and see over 50 species of venomous and non-venomous snakes in naturalistic enclosures designed to mimic their native Thai habitats.
Red Cross Institute of Nursing
This was the first nursing school established in Thailand (1914). Its purpose is to produce "Red Cross Nurses" who are uniquely trained in both clinical excellence and disaster relief operations. Its greatest achievement is its long-standing integration with Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, providing a seamless transition from classroom theory to high-stakes emergency care. Here, your group can visit the Advanced Simulation Center, where nursing students practice life-saving maneuvers on high-fidelity mannequins, and view the archives detailing the institute’s role in providing medical aid during major regional crises and natural disasters.
Red Cross Blood Centre
Founded in 1952, the National Blood Centre stands as the primary hub for blood safety and distribution across Thailand. Its purpose is to maintain a sustainable and safe blood supply for the entire kingdom, operating under the motto "Service to Mankind." One of its crowning achievements is the establishment of the National Rare Blood Group Registry, which identifies donors with rare phenotypes like "Rh-negative" (which is uncommon in the Thai population). Visitors here can observe the high-tech cold chain logistics, the automated separation of blood components (plasma, platelets, and red cells), and the rigorous screening processes that ensure Thailand meets international WHO standards for transfusion safety.
