Siriraj Academic Centre of Geriatric Medicine (SiACG)

The strategic research arm of Mahidol University’s Faculty of Medicine, it is specifically designed to address the medical complexities of Thailand’s "Super-Aged Society." Its purpose is to serve as a world-class training ground for geriatricians and a primary hub for aging research, focusing on everything from cellular biomarkers of frailty to national policy standards for elderly care. One of its most notable achievements is the recent soft-opening of its Samut Sakhon branch, a purpose-built facility that bridges the gap between acute hospital treatment and long-term community rehabilitation, effectively becoming the "brain" for geriatric protocol in the ASEAN region.

Witness the translational research cycle—seeing how laboratory findings on dementia and sarcopenia are turned into clinical handbooks for families. Specialized Integrated Geriatric Assessment Clinics emphasize patient-centered "One-Stop Service" flow. This stop is essential for understanding the academic backbone of Thai geriatrics, allowing participants to see the sophisticated data-tracking systems used to monitor health outcomes and the educational infrastructure used to train the next generation of elderly care specialists.

Bang Khun Thian Geriatric Hospital

Established in 2009 by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Bang Khun Thian Geriatric Hospital stands as Thailand’s first state-run hospital dedicated entirely to the elderly. Its background is rooted in local philanthropy, built on coastal land donated specifically to serve the aging population in the southern "Lung of Bangkok" near the Gulf of Thailand. The hospital has achieved a unique reputation for its Universal Design architecture, featuring resort-like wards and floating gardens that provide a therapeutic, "non-hospital" atmosphere. It is a pioneer in integrating traditional Thai and Chinese medicine—such as acupuncture and herbal therapy—with modern orthopaedic and geriatric services to provide a holistic recovery environment.

This site offers a masterclass in Environmental Gerontology. Observe how the panoramic views of the mangrove forests and the coastal air are utilized as a "nature therapy" component for recovering seniors. The rehabilitation wing features advanced physical therapy equipment designed for balance and gait training, while the Dementia-Friendly wards where the layout is intentionally designed to feel like a shared home. This provides an overview of how state-run healthcare can achieve ‘private-hospital quality’ while maintaining public accessibility, focusing on the psychological and social well-being of the elderly during their convalescence.
