Learning and Development Center for Elderly Health and Palliative Care

The Learning and Development Center for Elderly Health and Palliative Care at Ramathibodi Hospital serves as a premier national hub for training and service in end-of-life care. Its primary purpose is to advance the "quality of death" alongside the quality of life, focusing on holistic comfort that addresses the physical, psychological, and spiritual needs of patients with terminal or chronic illnesses. By integrating educational programs with clinical practice, the center has successfully standardized palliative care protocols across Thailand, ensuring that both healthcare professionals and family caregivers are equipped with the skills to provide dignified and compassionate support.

Center for Promotion and Development of Quality of Life for Older People

Located within the Faculty of Dentistry at Mahidol University, this center treats oral health as a fundamental pillar of systemic wellness for the elderly. Its background is rooted in the understanding that dental health is not just about teeth, but about the ability to eat, speak, and socialize—key factors in preventing malnutrition and social isolation. The center’s primary achievement is its multidisciplinary "One-Stop Service" model, which earned it a national award for Outstanding Geriatric Care in 2020. It has pioneered specialized dental protocols and non-invasive restorative techniques specifically for seniors who may have underlying chronic conditions or mobility issues.

The Elderly-Friendly Dental Clinics features ergonomic chairs and specialized equipment designed to accommodate senior patients safely. The centrre’s "Fun Dee Mee Suk" (Healthy Teeth, Healthy Life) project, uses innovative educational pamphlets and interactive games to improve dental literacy. By observing the collaboration between dentists, geriatric nurses, and social workers, the centre strives to improve the overall quality of life through the often-overlooked lens of geriatric dentistry.

Geriatric Medicine Clinic (Ramathibodi Hospital)

Specializing in the management of "Geriatric Giants" such as dementia, Its purpose is to move away from fragmented organ-specific care toward a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) that views the patient as a whole. One of its greatest achievements is its leadership in "Deprescribing"—the rigorous scientific process of reducing the burden of polypharmacy (the use of multiple medications) in the elderly—which has significantly decreased adverse drug reactions and hospital admissions among their patients.

At this clinic, clinical pharmacists, and physical therapists collaborate on complex case management. High-resolution diagnostic tools are used for cognitive screening and observe the "Home-to-Hospital" transitional care protocols that ensure seniors remain stable after discharge. This visit offers a deep dive into the practical reality of modern geriatric medicine, showcasing how academic research at Mahidol University is translated into life-saving clinical results for thousands of Thai seniors.
