Dental Practice

Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry

Established in 1968 to meet the country's growing need for dental professionals, this faculty has grown into a regional leader in dental education and research. Its achievements are marked by a commitment to social responsibility, notably through its Mobile Dental Units initiated by the Royal Family to serve remote areas. For a field study group, this faculty represents the pinnacle of modern Thai clinical training, boasting ISO-certified research laboratories and advanced simulation centers that bridge the gap between academic theory and community health service.

Sirindhorn Dental Museum

Located on the first floor of the Chaloem Phra Kiat Building, this is the first dental museum in Asia to utilize interactive technology for self-learning. The museum serves as a tribute to HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and chronicles the evolution of dentistry from ancient methods to the digital age. Visitors can engage with five themed zones, where they can see vintage dental chairs that look like Victorian-era torture devices, explore the history of the Chakri Dynasty's support for oral health, and use touchscreens to understand modern dental pathologies in a way that is engaging rather than intimidating.

Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Dentistry

As the first dental school in Thailand (founded in 1940), "Chula Dent" is the historic heart of the profession in the kingdom. Its purpose has always been to set the national standard for oral surgery and dental innovation, consistently ranking as the top dental school in Thailand by international metrics. The faculty is a pioneer in multidisciplinary craniofacial surgery and serves as a major referral center for complex cases, making it an essential stop for understanding the academic foundations and clinical milestones of Thai medicine.

Chulalongkorn Dental Museum (Wachvidyavaddhana Museum)

While Mahidol focuses on interaction, this museum—named after the faculty’s first dean—focuses on archival preservation and heritage. It houses a collection of rare textbooks, early dental instruments, and historical documents that trace the lineage of the profession in Thailand. Field study participants can observe the meticulous records of the "Early Eight," the first class of dental students, and see how the school survived and adapted through the challenges of the mid-20th century, providing a profound sense of professional identity and history.

Human Body Museum

Located on the 9th floor of the Faculty of Dentistry building, this is one of only 11 such museums in the world and the first in Southeast Asia. It features 13 whole-body cadavers and over 130 organs preserved through plastination, a technique that replaces body fluids with liquid plastic to create odorless, durable, and highly detailed specimens. Your group can walk through two specialized rooms to see the human form "de-shelled"—viewing the intricate nervous system, the splayed musculature of a runner, and the internal effects of disease, offering a perspective on anatomy that textbooks simply cannot replicate.
